Unwinding Before Bed: A Nightly Routine for Quality Sleep

After a long day of the world demanding your time and energy, it is time to give yourself the same. Adapting these things into my nightly routine has improved my rest drastically. Unwind before bed by doing some of these things to induce quality sleep. I want you to be well-rested too.

Light a Scented Candle

The scent of Pink Petal Tea Cake filling the room as I prepare for a good night's sleep, makes all the difference in the world. The scent is euphoric and puts me in a calm state.

Sleepy Time Tea or Hot Lemon Water

You can choose whichever caffeine-free herbal tea that you like but this is one of my favorites. The sweet taste of the tea is euphoric, soothing, and melts the tension away. A nice steaming mug of lemon water also gives me the same feeling, with its invigorating yet refreshing taste. Both are also packed with health benefits.

Stretch It Away

You may feel some tension after a long day. Pull out your yoga mat or a soft blanket and slowly stretch your body out. You don't have to do a full out yoga session but just stretch some of that tension off of you. You'll feel a difference and notice the improvement in your sleep.

Meditate

Personally, my favorite app I use for meditation is Soultime. It has a variety of relaxing sounds of nature, Bible verses, prayers, and devotions. Another great app is Sanity & Self. It's a women's wellness app that provides self-care tools for sleep, anxiety, stress, self-love, rejection, love, you name it. They have hundreds of audios you can listen to before bed. Sometimes I even fall asleep to audios of affirmations. This has helped me release anxiety and the day's problems so I can sleep peacefully at night.

Read

Sometimes we can't fall asleep because we're stuck in our head's and what's going on in our world. Reading takes the focus off of your own voice in your head and allows the author to take the mic. Having a story to focus on can help you fall asleep because you're not up, overthinking your life.

Alone Time

The last 30 minutes of the day belongs to me. I use that time to talk to God and myself. I take time to Thank God for everything. I also talk to myself and do a little bit of journaling. Ultimately, I make sure that I have some time in the day that completely belongs to me. I can't pour from an empty cup so this is how I refill.

Those are just a few things I've implemented in my nightly routine. They relax me and have significantly improved my sleep. I hope you adopt some of these things in your routine and they work as well for you as they did for me. Good night, Roses.
