Some of you may be aware of the recent live video made by Kodak Wack, formally known as Kodak Black (in my book). In this video, he decides to confess his predatory love for Lauren London, who just recently lost the love of her life and the father of her child in a tragic, senseless, murder. Ashy and shirtless, he states in the video. "Lauren London's that baby though. She's gonna be out here single. She's gonna be a whole widow out here." The 21-year old mumble rapper continued. "I’ll be the best man I can be for her,". "I’ll give her a whole year. She might need a whole year to be crying and s--- for him." He adds: "I ain’t trying to shoot [my shot] at her. I’m saying, listen. She can do two, three years. I’ll try to be like the friend if you need to holla or a shoulder to lean on. She can call my line."
You don't need to be a Nipsey fan to be disgusted by these comments, you just need to be human. Kodak is no stranger to predatory behavior and boundary killing considering the charges he is currently facing and the awful verbal harassment of women like Young M.A. along with others. It is evident that he is nothing short of disrespectful and repulsive. However, one thing he is not; is rare.
There are many men out there who see opportunity in women's pain. This may very well be the lowest moment in Lauren's life and instead of being empathetic he chooses to be opportunistic. Be wary of those who defend this kind of manipulative behavior. Those are the men who befriend women with ulterior motives. These are the men who look at your bad break-up as access. To them, your loneliness and despair is a green-light. That is why you can find many tweets defending and normalizing Kodak's behavior because those men are really just defending themselves.
Some men's motives are more clear than others. Some are dumb and blatant enough to express them in a live video for thousands to see. Some offer you their number if you "need to talk, beautiful" after posting your fifth Instagram story referencing lyrics from Beyonce's Lemonade album. It's not just your haters waiting on your downfall. It's also self-seeking, scheming dudes who have a dick where their heart used to be.
As for that opportunistic infection y'all like to call a rapper, Kodak, I have a couple of questions. How many times does this man have to show us who he is? How long are we going to continue to allow an ecosystem to grow where he and fellow creeps like himself can even be comfortable saying and doing the things that he's done and still have support?
This has not started with him but I would like for it to end. We need to stop allowing his music to be louder than his character. We can no longer allow capitalizing off of the pain of women to just be looked at as "shooting your shot." We need to do away with Kodak for once and for all. We ESPECIALLY need to stop feeding him after midnight. Most importantly, we must prioritize the safety of women.
