It's Okay to Take a Break: 2020 is Not Normal

There's been a lot of pressure to create more, learn a new skill, and develop a new stream of income as the world quarantines. For many, it feels as though time has been moving slower than ever. A lot of us feel this weird guilt about not taking advantage of this new time that we have. Rest assure, you should not feel that way. Your main focus should be on your mental health this year. Between going through a pandemic and then witnessing the racial tension the world chose to sweep under the rug finally explode, all on top of your own personal issues, you have every right to focus on catching your breath before you do anything.

Normalcy seems so far away but we will get there. Actually, we may very well head towards a new and improved "normal". Be patient with yourself. Gradually touch one goal at a time. Don't feel bad for escaping in a book or a show. Don't beat yourself up for sleeping. Just make a conscious effort to donate 30 minutes of your time and energy to one of those goals and you will build from there. This is not a race to success. This is a journey. Today can be the day you start your journey towards feeling like you again and fulfilling the promises that you made to yourself. Don't think about all the time you "wasted". Self-preservation is not a waste.

Your mind and body needed the rest. If you still need more, that's okay too. You cannot pour from an empty cup. You will get to where you need to be when you need to be there.
